Morganton NC Area Information & Links

There is an abundance of scenic attractions in our local area. There are waterfalls including Linville Falls, Upper Creek Falls, Lower Creek Falls, and more. The Appalachian Trail routes through our area. The Blue Ridge Parkway is a few miles further North, Linville Caverns ans Linville Gorge are closer to the north. Grandfather Mountain, Table Rock, Hawk's Bill, Wiseman's View, and The Brown Mountain Lights are all local attractions.

The High Country in western North Carolina has the highest elevation east of the Rockies at Mount Mitchell, with an elevation of 6,684 feet.


Linville Caverns

Linville Caverns resides deep inside of Humpback Mountain and is North Carolina's only caverns. These natural limestone caverns feature stalactite and stalagmite formations and an underground stream. Guided tours are 30 - 40 minutes in length through the caverns and picture taking is permitted. The caverns is located near Linville Falls and four miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway.


Linville Falls

Linville Falls drops almost 100 feet into the 12-mile long Linville Gorge. Enjoy spectacular views of waterfall surrounded by the steep walls of the gorge. Linville Falls is the most photographed waterfall in North Carolina. It is located off the Blue Ridge Parkway. You can hike to five viewpoints on two trails that leave the Visitors Center that offers restrooms and an information center (open May-October and weekends in April).


Blue Ridge Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway is a National Parkway; The Blue Ridge Parkway leisurely weaves its way through the Appalachian Mountain chain as it extends to the southern end of the massive Black Mountains, the Blue Ridge Parkway is over 469 miles and ending near the Great Smoky Mountains. The Blue Ridge Parkway, sometimes called "America's Favorite Drive", is the most visited parkway of America's National Park System.


Grandfather Mountain

Located off the Blue Ridge Parkway, a nature biosphere reserve Grandfather Mountain is a mountain and state park near Linville, North Carolina. At 5,946 feet (1,818 m), it is the highest peak on the eastern escarpment of the Blue Ridge Mountains, one of the major chains of the Appalachian Mountains. The Blue Ridge Parkway passes by the south side of the mountain. It is located at the meeting point of Avery, Caldwell, and Watauga Counties. www.grandfather.com

Tweetsie Railroad

For an old-fashioned day in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Tweetsie Railroad is an unforgettable family experience. Tweetsie Railroad is a unique High Country attraction that incorporates historic steam locomotive Number 12, Thomas the Train, cowboys, Indians, engineers, animals, and loads of rides and live entertainment. Tweetsir Railroad is located on Hwy 321 between Boone and Blowing Rock.


Woolly Worm Festival

Since 1978, the residents of Banner Elk, Sugar Mountain and Beech Mountain villages have celebrated the coming of the snow season with The Woolly Worm Festival. The third weekend in October determines which worm will have the honor of predicting the severity of the coming winter. You will find great food, a woad wace, live entertainment, and lots of arts and craft vendors.
